LINCOLN COUNTY FAMILY YMCA
The Lincoln County Family YMCA
opened it's doors in February 2001. This five-year venture was the vision of many dedicated people, especially Jim Burt, Capital Campaign Chairman, and Pete Acker, CEO of Lincoln Medical Center. The two-story building is located on 2.5 acres adjacent to Lincoln Medical Center and was built on land donated by Lincoln Health System. Major contributors included The Timken Company, The City of Lincolnton, and Lincoln County, plus a multitude of private donations.
The 33,000 square-foot facility is everything the community envisioned. It includes a pool which offers a divided area, with walk-in entrance, much like a beach on one side and a lap area on the other. Private showers and dressing rooms are provided as well. The YMCA offers a spacious gym for basketball and volleyball. The raised track is expected to attract walkers and runners. The facility has a large aerobics room, and a workout area especially cooled for weight-lifting. A special feature of the facility is a childcare center with provided sitters.
The YMCA provides space for Lincoln Medical Center's use in the way of a "Wellness Center." That space includes a kitchen for special diet and food preparation, as well as a classroom, an office, and an exam room. Lincoln Medical Center offers a wide variety of programs and services at the YMCA. This collaborative effort between Lincoln Medical Center and The Lincoln County Family YMCA will further enhance the healthcare of the communities served.
The Lincoln County Family YMCA is operated under the direction of a local volunteer
